The results of the recent ballots are:

Vice Presidency:
JB DuPont (France) 86
A Ross (USA) 76
Jean-Baptiste DuPont will continue as Vice President for a further two years from 1 January 2007

Change to Rule B 8.2.2 to permit loose-footed mainsails:
For 130
Against 37
The revised Rule B 8.2.2 will come into effect on 1 January 2007.

Please be advised that due to an overwhelming majority in favour of, but still subject to formal ratification under A15.4, the revised rule B8.2.2 will come into effect on 1 January 2007. The new rule will now read:

  • 8.2.1 The mainsail shall conform with the Class Rules and the measurement diagrams, except that a sail smaller in any dimension except batten position is allowed.

  • 8.2.2 The luff shall be secured to the mast spar over at least 80 per cent of its length.

Purpose is to allow loose-footed mains. Loose-footed mains would make the sails cheaper and easier to build and make it easier and faster to bend the main on to the boom.

Rob Napier's recommendation is that if anyone is ordering sails for Adelaide, or making use of winter discounts for new sails, get a loose footed one if you wish.

  • I söndags (12 nov) var Douglas och jag ute på en liten hösttur med foffen. Gott om match-race'are och A-kattor och hela 8 finnjollar!!! på vattnet utanför GKSS.   • 28-29 Juli 2007 arrangeras Nordiska Mästerskapen för 5o5 av Borstahusens SS i Landskrona i samband med deras Nordic Week.

  • Karl-Otto Strömberg planerar bygga 3 nya OTTO-505 i vinter !!
    Det som gäller är ett skrov utan beslag samt roder och CB.
    Beslaginköp kan ordnas via Otto men monteringen får man fixa själv.
    Otto-505'en fick många positiv a kommentarer från deltagare på VM i England nyligen.

    Ni som är intresserade hör av er till Otto snarast möjligt!

    The OTTO-5o5 got very positive feedback from participants at the 5o5 Worlds a month ago which now has resulted in that Karl-Otto Stromberg plan to build 3 new hulls this winter.
    The bare hulls will be for sale without fittings mounted. Most fittings needed can be supplied but the buyer must put them on themselves.
    High-Aspect Centerboard and Rudder, a rig (partly ready) and sails can also be supplied if wanted. Information

  • Small People's Guide to 5o5 sailing

  • Medlemsomröstning: Vid AGM under VM beslutades att göra en sk. Ballot bland alla aktiva medlemmar kring två förslag.

    Balloten gäller dels att rösta på en av två föreslagna kandidater till Vice ordförande posten i Int.505 CYRA samt ett regeländringsförslag till ett lösfotat storsegel. Läs mer (pdf dokument)
    Röstsedeln skall senast skickas in den 31 Oktober 2006.

  • På AGM valdes Pip Pearson till ny ordförande för kommande 2 års period. Pip har innehaft posten tidigare (1995-2000) och är fortfarande aktiv.

    Imorgon tisdag beger sig tre svenska besättningar mot södra England för att segla 505-VM vid Hayling Island fram till den 4 Augusti.

The Boisen Moller brothers won the 2006 European Championship in a close fight with Herrmann/Kleiner.
With a first place in last race Larsen/Andersen pulled themselves to a third place with another danish team Saugmann/Ramsbaek on fourth.
The final winner of the Eurocup 2006 is Boris Herrmann and Julien Kleiner after excellent performance at the Eurocups in France, Germany and Denmark.

JUNI

Pacific Coast Championships Pacific Coast Championships Pacific Coast Championships

The third Eurocup was sailed in Kiel, Germany.

A strong fleet of 52 boats including 5 crews from last years top 10 at the worlds including world champions Hunger/Jess.

The first 3 days was dominated by looong days on the water, waiting for some breeze and only 3 races was sailed in very tricky conditions. The female team Fisher/Stengler won the 2 first races, later on they found that they had been a little to quick in the start in second race.

The danes Saugmann/Ramsbaek won third race, Herman/Kleiner fourth and it was now a close battle between these 2 boats in the last race before Saugmann/Ramsbaek could claim the title of winners of the "Kieler Woche".

Another 505 Team Boisen Moller brothers won the Kieler Woche in FD.

Boite/Toupet is now leading the EuroCup. But a lot of teams will be wery close when one regatta can be discarded after the final regatta - But remember the final regatta cannot be discarded so if you want to win the Eurocup you have to sail it.

    Mikael Kyander har tagit hand om skrov och rigg efter att Vikingarnas SS auktionerat ut båten då ingen ägare hört av
    sig efter en längre tids förvaring i deras hamn.

"Har ännu inte sågat sönder ”min” 505, det tar emot!
Vet du vem som kan ha varit ägare till den innan? Den var hemmahörande på Vikingarnas, har klisterlappar fram till 2000. Borde därför varit ”vid liv” fram till dess. Helt klart är att en större renovering var tänkt, bla har den hunnit bli ommålad invändigt, masktejp sitter kvar. Gult skrov, trädäck, nu blå invändigt. Skulle jag kunna hitta ägaren – som sannolikt inte vet att hans båt är såld – så skulle jag kanske kunna hitta alla prylar till den – och då skulle sågplanerna kunna omvärderas.

Finally summer hit Europe and the it´s here we have the major 505 regattas this year - 127 entries sofar to the Worlds in Hayling - organisers tells me that there are room for even more, so if you haven´t entered, its time to do it now.

The Europacup is under way, a 57 boat fleet competed at the first event in the series in sunny France.

    Europacup Final in Kalovig, Denmark.
    It is an official European Championship, it is also the Euro-cup final. The dates are 29/6 - 2/7 2006.

APRIL

  • At the AGM in Warnemünde,
    Rule C 4.2 was amended to the following, to come into effect on 1 January 2006:

4.2 The Organising Authority shall carry out such measurement as is directed by the International Measurer.
As a minimum, all sails and spars shall be checked and all boats shall be weighed. The Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions shall specify that no more than two suits of sails, one set of spars, one centreboard and one rudder may be presented for measurement. The Race Committee may direct further measurement or restrictions subject to the agreement of the IEC.

  • KSR 40.2 utgår !
    Regel 40.2 skulle ha börjat gälla den 1 januari 2006. Den stryks av tekniska skäl och återinförs troligen i den regelbok som ges ut 2009. läs mer här.

  • 505 Florida Midwinters:

    I understand that Erik Boothe -- a member of the winning team -- is close to having a complete report for all of us, but in the meantime....

    Congratulations to Ethan Bixby/Erik Boothe for another 505 Midwinters win. Despite TWO transmission breakdowns, one of which cost us two boats, we had an 18 505 turnout, which is better than we've had since about 1998. I believe that the increasing turnouts at Midwinters reflect both ongoing growth in the US East Coast 505 fleets, and Ethan, Lin, Erik et al's work in tweaking the event to make it better.

    Sailing out of Isla del Sol YC on Boca Ciega bay -- this was the second year we have done this -- is great as we seem to get more reliable breeze on Boca Ciega than on Tampa Bay, we're sailing in clear Gulf of Mexico water, and for at least one of the three days we race, we sail out to the Gulf of Mexico. Awesome!

    This year's event drew competitors to Florida from as far away as Colorado, New York and AUSTRALIA!!!! Yes, Earle and Ian flew in from Australia for this event.
